Jimmy the Volleyball Legend of India! Jimmy was born in 1955 as the second child of the ten children of George & Mary. Jimmy has always been a sports person from his school days. It was his father; a University Volleyball player, who introduced him to sports at a very young age. Jimmy was also a good swimmer and had won prizes during his education, but volleyball was his passion. While doing his medicine at Medical College Trivandrum, he discontinued and joined the Kerala Police in 1976. He married Lovely Nelakkathanam. Lovely remained as a Housewife during his sports journey. He was the youngest winner of the Arjuna Award in Volleyball at the age of 21 in 1976. He was honoured as the best Sportsman of Kerala of the 20th Century. Jimmy was the first Indian to play professional Volleyball in Europe. He was regarded as one of the ‘best attackers’ in the world during the 1980s. His smashes in the air were admiring. He represented India in the Asian Games 1974, 1978 and 1986 and was the Indian captain in 1985. He had an untimely accidental death on 30/11/1987 in Italy at the age of 32. He was in the rank of an Asst Commandant at the time of death. The couple has a son.
